It has finally become official, Zuffa, the parent company of UFC, now owns the IFL according to a report Five Ounces of Pain put out on Thursday.
In the report is a quote from the soon-to-be ex-Vice President of Communications or IFL, Joe Favorito in which he states "As of July 31 my role at the IFL will be no more as the company goes into its final stage of being sold and/or closed down". The buy out seems to make alot of sense, seeing as how many top former IFL fighters are now with the UFC & UFC has recently shown IFL footage on their UFC Fight Night 14 show as well. Most could also see this as UFC making it's mark to be THE product of Mixed Martial Arts, similar to how WWE is in wrestling and how the got there. While it is sad that the IFL had to shut down, it was almost inevitable. Changes that needed to happen to save the product just came too little, too late and with no TV deal in a era where Spike TV is the UFC and even Kimbo Slice gets TV time, it has become a vital element in getting people to know your product Zuffa will receive all of the IFL assets, assumed to be fighter contracts and their video library, as of July 31st and International Fight League will be no more.
