TNA Impact Recap - 8/07/2008
The News - Wrestling  |   Written by Adam Wilcox   |   Friday, 08 August 2008
TNA presented their go-home edition of Impact last night three days before the company's Hard Justice PPV event. The program featured a Weapons Gauntlet Match, a four-team No-DQ bout, and much more.

The show was headlined by an eight-man Gauntlet Match (Originally advertised as consisting of ten competitors, but this was presumably changed due to Kevin Nash’s walkout during the taping) which featured a twist on the usual format: Instead of one wrestler entering the bout each minute, two performers would join the match every two minutes. Hard Justice opponents AJ Styles and Kurt Angle began the contest, but it was World Champion Samoa Joe who eventually emerged victorious following a Muscle Buster on Tomko. Post-match, Sting’s music hit and The Icon was shown in the rafters pointing his baseball bat at Joe. The Samoan Submission Machine returned the gesture with a security baton as the broadcast ended. A more important note here was the severe hardway laceration Angle received following a ladder shot from Styles. The Olympian continued to wrestle for a considerable period of time afterward and likely should have been removed from the match much earlier. Angle’s passion for the business is admirable (although some would use harsher terms), but he needs to start thinking about his family and long-term well-being.

Another huge match on the program featured Team 3D and Beer Money squaring off against Christian Cage, Rhino, and LAX in a No-DQ bout (Which was mistakenly pushed as a Tables Match on the TNA website). Of course, this was a complete brawl. Homicide earned the win for his team by pinning James Storm following a Gringo Cutter, but the LAX member’s victory was overshadowed when the heels blindsided their conquerors after the bell and drove Homicide through a glass table.

In other news, SoCal Val accepted Sonjay Dutt’s apology for stealing her wedding ring after The Prince Justice Brotherhood returned the band, and Consequences Creed teamed with Jay Lethal to defeat The Motor City Machineguns in a fantastic match (Alex Shelley refused to shake Creed’s hand following the bout, possibly indicating a heel turn).

This was a very entertaining show, although I question TNA’s decision to offer a Weapons Match on free television when the company is presenting a similar bout as the main event of a PPV in three nights. Overall, however, a very strong Impact this week.

Match Results: Roxxi Laveaux over Jackie Moore via pinfall in a Bimbo Brawl (Traci Brooks served as Guest Referee) … Sonjay Dutt over Curry Man via pinfall … Consequences Creed and Jay Lethal over The Motor City Machineguns via Creed’s pinfall on Alex Shelley … World Tag Team Champions LAX, Christian Cage, and Rhino over Team 3D and Beer Money in a No-disqualification Match via Homicide’s pinfall on James Storm … Awesome Kong over Salinas via pinfall … World Champion Samoa Joe won a Weapons Gauntlet Match.

Why do they want to break everybody up? The scumbags, the emo spotmokeys, the Old Age Outlaws... even LAX, reportedly.

I agree. I do find it funny that they go to all the trouble of breaking up America's Most Wanted to just put James Storm back in a tag team.

Good episode of Impact, though. Kurt Angle needs to watch out for low hanging ladders left in the middle of the ring...

Hey Dickerman, what did Mickie James say when she saw Kurt Angle bleeding?

THATS A NASTY GASH

Being the first time that i've ever watched TNA, I caught the Motorcity Machine Guns vs. Creed & Machismo. I throughly enjoyed the match but was confused by a few things.
1. Why do the Motorcity Machine Guns wear those stupid masks to the ring?
2. Who was the babyface/ who was the heel? I don't even think the crowd knew.
3. Why have an established tag team in MCMG lose to a made up pair of Creed/Machismo? Doesn't make any since.
