TNA Impact Report - 9/04/2008
The News - Wrestling  |   Written by Adam Wilcox   |   Friday, 05 September 2008
Last night's Impact featured the final qualifying match for No Surrender's Four Ways To Glory main event, another supposed heel promo from Sting, and more.

Kurt Angle and Booker T began the show by coming to the ring and accusing Samoa Joe of being a disgrace to the TNA World Title. The two heels agreed with Sting’s assessment last week that today’s young wrestlers are a group of spoiled brats before being interrupted by Christian Cage, who vowed to take the belt himself at No Surrender. Cage eventually found himself on the receiving end of a two-on-one attack by Booker and Angle, which brought out AJ Styles for the save. Jim Cornette then appeared and informed the villains that any interference in the Styles-Cage Four Ways To Glory qualifier later in the night would cost them their spots in the PPV main event. Cage went on to defeat AJ in a terrific match when Frank Trigg nailed Styles with a kendo stick behind the backs of both Christian and the referee.

Consequences Creed downed Sheik Abdul Bashir to earn an X Division Championship shot against Petey Williams at No Surrender. Bashir had originally defeated Creed with a roll-up while placing his feet on the ropes for leverage, but referee Shane Sewell restarted the contest upon seeing a replay of the finish. Sewell’s involvement later allowed Creed to win the bout, resulting in a confrontation between the official and Bashir. A furious Middle Eastern Nightmare slapped Sewell across the face and the enraged referee responded by backdropping Bashir and clotheslining him out of the ring.

Sting delivered another half-hearted “heel” promo and thanked the fans who supported his statements last week. The Icon continued to prove what a baddie he is by saying that there would be no TNA or Sting without the wrestling audience before finally acknowledging those who booed his comments. Sting said there were some fans who cheered as Kurt Angle and Booker T were assaulted by Samoa Joe and AJ Styles at the last two PPVs and asked the crowd whose side they were on. Joe arrived and Sting offered him the same chance given to Styles last week by placing his baseball bat in the Champion’s hands and turning his back. Joe told Sting that he didn’t need the bat and dropped it in front of the multi-time World Titleholder before pulling out a security baton. Kevin Nash entered the ring to try and calm the situation, but as Joe headed toward him, Sting hit The Samoan Submission with his bat and delivered a Scorpion Deathdrop. Jeff Jarrett’s music played and The Stinger challenged The King of the Mountain to confront him next Thursday.

AJ Styles cut an awesome interview on the show, where he spoke of sacrificing his body and being away from home for years in order to build TNA into what it is today. AJ accused Sting of jumping onto the company bandwagon after Impact was picked up by Spike TV and suggested that The Icon thank him and his family for their sacrifices. In my opinion, this promo made it crystal-clear that the veterans vs. new generation angle should be heel/babyface specific (not that it wasn’t obvious before), preferably with Styles and Joe leading the younger grapplers as the heroes.

In other news, Roxxi was Awesome Bombed on a steel chair after rescuing ODB from an attack by Awesome Kong and Matt Morgan returned Abyss’ favors to him in recent weeks with a run-in save as The Monster was being assaulted by Team 3D and Johnny Devine.

Match Results: Consequences Creed over Sheik Abdul Bashir via pinfall to earn a shot at the X Division Title at No Surrender … Tag Team Champions Beer Money Inc. over Super Eric and Shark Boy in a non-title match via Robert Roode’s pinfall on Shark Boy … Abyss wrestled Johnny Devine to a no-contest in a Hardcore Match following interference by Team 3D and Matt Morgan … ODB over Raisha Saeed via pinfall … Christian Cage over AJ Styles via pinfall in a Four Ways To Glory Qualifying Match following interference by Frank Trigg.

Please... Please... PLEASE... No more ODB going to the bathroom promos... I'll watch a "TP-on-a-pole" match... Anything but that ever again.
