WWE Unforgiven Recap
The News - Wrestling  |   Written by Adam Wilcox   |   Monday, 08 September 2008
Last night's Unforgiven PPV featured two World Title changes, Shawn Michaels taking on Chris Jericho in an "unsanctioned match", and more.

The show opened with Matt Hardy outlasting four other wrestlers in the ECW Championship Scramble to win the belt. Triple H later retained his WWE Title in the Smackdown Scramble Match by pinning MVP with one second remaining in the twenty-minute time limit (This occurred just as Jeff Hardy covered Shelton Benjamin following a Swanton Bomb).

Shawn Michaels and Chris Jericho battled in a terrific “unsanctioned match” won by HBK when the referee rendered Jericho unable to continue. Lance Cade attempted interference during the bout, but was dropped by Sweet Chin Music before being placed underneath Jericho and sent through a table courtesy of Michaels. Post-match, Shawn attacked the official and appeared unable to comprehend his actions.

Cody Rhodes and Ted DiBiase retained their World Tag Team Championships against Cryme Tyme when DiBiase reversed JTG’s small package on Rhodes. The second generation duo later joined Afa Anoa’i Jr. (now going by the ring name “Manu”) and Randy Orton for an attack on World Champion CM Punk, taking the straightedge grappler out of the Raw Scramble Match. General Manager Mike Adamle chose Chris Jericho to replace Punk in the competition and the former Y2J walked out with the strap after taking advantage of an incapacitated Kane, who had been driven to the mat with a spinebuster from Batista.

In other news, The Big Show turned heel and joined forces with Vickie Guerrero by attacking The Undertaker, who had come to the ring intent on destroying the Smackdown GM.

This was a solid show and the Scramble Matches were entertaining (albeit convoluted). I was disappointed to see the World Title taken off of CM Punk, but am happy with the choice of Chris Jericho to supplant him as Champion. The fact that Punk did not drop the belt in the ring keeps him somewhat strong as well.

Match Results: Matt Hardy won the ECW Championship Scramble over Mark Henry, Chavo Guerrero, The Miz, and Finlay to win the ECW World Title … World Tag Team Champions Cody Rhodes and Ted DiBiase over Cryme Tyme via Rhodes’ pinfall on JTG … Shawn Michaels over Chris Jericho via referee stoppage in an unsanctioned match … WWE Champion Triple H won the WWE Championship Scramble over MVP, U.S. Champion Shelton Benjamin, The Brian Kendrick, and Jeff Hardy … Divas Champion Michelle McCool over Maryse via pinfall … Chris Jericho over Kane, Batista, JBL, and Rey Mysterio in the World Championship Scramble to win the World Title.

Ashame Punk's reign came to an end, was looking forward to Randy Orton facing him for the belt, oh well have to see what happens next. Jericho as World Champion is still cool.

this is a same so much more could have bin done with punk i think the creative team need to get a grip. theyve spoilt a chance to create a respectable champion

I liked the show overall, and I thought Punk being taken out by Orton will make for a rivalry that could go to WM (possibly even main event should one of them pick up the title).

im not really a big cm punk fan , but they should of left the belt on him for a few more months...like it was said earlier , it would have really MADE punk and put him over as a serious champion...kinda like the long run cena had did for him...and its not like batista , y2j , cena , or hbk NEED a belt to help them sell tickets cause they are already MADE...does wwe really think punk getting a clean win over a few big names is gonna hurt them?...it wont hurt anybody if they make punk look strong , it will make sense...if the world champ cant beat big name guys clean without hurting them , WHY IS HE CHAMP?

I kinda liked CM Punk for his kiddish looks, and clean style of wrestling.
