Yahoo! Sports & MMA Weekly's Jeff Cain, Ken Pishna, and Tom Hamlin are reporting that former UFC middleweight champion, Evan Tanner, was found dead near Palo Verde, California on Monday. He was 37.

According to Douglas Victorrino, member of Tanner's management team, Tanner had went on a trek to the desert to "cleanse" himself. It was not a one time thing, apparently, he's done it numerous times over the course of the past few years.

Victorrino confirmed that the Sherrif's officals that found Tanner believe his motorcycle ran out of gas, so he went for a walk in the 115 - 118 degree heat. He was miles away from his camp and that's where searching helicopters found him. They believe, as of right now, he succombed to the dangerous heat of the desert.

Tanner rose to fame by winning the UFC Middleweight Title from David Terrell at UFC 51: Super Saturday in February 2005. One year later, he lost the title to Rich Franklin. His last fight came on June 21st of this year losing to Kendall Grove by decision, making his final MMA record 32 - 8. Tanner was a one-of-a-kind personality, and he will be missed in the MMA and UFC communities.
