Last night's post-PPV edition of Raw featured a Chris Jericho-Batista main event, the continuation of Santino Marella's Honk-A-Meter, and more. The show began with new World Champion Chris Jericho addressing the live crowd in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Jericho stated that the gold on his shoulder made him better than his Unforgiven opponent Shawn Michaels and gloated over winning the Raw Championship Scramble at the PPV. General Manager Mike Adamle interrupted the red brand’s new kingpin and announced that Jericho will defend his title against ex-Champion CM Punk inside a steel cage on next week’s broadcast. Adamle also signed the former Y2J to meet Batista later in the program, but turned that bout into a Handicap Match mid-way through the contest, citing the injuries Jericho suffered the previous night. John Bradshaw Layfield was chosen by Adamle to wrestle as Jericho’s partner and the first-ever Undisputed Titleholder scored the pinfall over Batista after capitalizing on JBL’s Clothesline From Hell. Randy Orton came to the ring and claimed that CM Punk should be grateful to him for taking the straightedge competitor out of the World Championship Scramble at Unforgiven, arguing that Punk’s reign would have been exposed as a fluke if he had competed in the event. The Legend Killer proceeded to bestow all the credit for the assault upon himself, prompting World Tag Team Champions Cody Rhodes and Ted DiBiase to arrive along with their new associate Manu. The trio reminded Randy of their involvement in the Punk beating and Orton responded by slapping DiBiase across the face. Intercontinental Champion Santino Marella continued his Honk-A-Meter title reign yardstick with a victory over Snitstky. I’m loving the Honk-A-Meter angle, as it is finally providing Marella with some solid wins and credibility while allowing him to remain comedic on the microphone. In other news, Layla reluctantly left ringside on the arm of William Regal following the 2008 King of the Ring’s victory over Jamie Noble and Kane hinted at re-masking for his match against Rey Mysterio on next week’s Raw.
Match Results: Women’s Champion Beth Phoenix over Mickie James via pinfall … William Regal over Jamie Noble via pinfall … Charlie Haas (wrestling as JBL impersonator “CHL”) over John Bradshaw Layfield via countout … Rey Mysterio and Evan Bourne over John Morrison and The Miz via Bourne’s pinfall on Morrison … Manu and World Tag Team Champions Cody Rhodes and Ted DiBiase over Cryme Tyme and Kofi Kingston via Manu’s pinfall on Shad … Intercontinental Champion Santino Marella over Snitsky via pinfall … World Champion Chris Jericho and JBL over Batista in a Handicap Match via Jericho’s pinfall on Batista.
