Last night's pre-No Surrender Impact featured a Gauntlet Match, the inaugural Beautiful People Beauty Pageant, and the return of the King of the Mountain.
World Champion Samoa Joe began the show by coming to the ring and verbally running down Sting before being confronted by his “mentor” Kevin Nash. Big Sexy challenged Joe to compete in a Gauntlet Match later in the broadcast against three wrestlers of his choosing and The Samoan Submission Machine accepted the proposal. Joe went on to easily dispose of Johnny Devine and Lance Rock until a returning Tomko arrived as his final opponent (although this was not sold as a comeback by the announcers, who basically acted as if Tomko had never left the company). Nash congratulated Joe following his victories and admitted that the TNA kingpin was ready for the Four Ways To Glory Match at No Surrender. Nash said he had taught Joe all he could and the two embraced (In other words, all is well until they begin screaming and arguing again during the PPV).
Angelina Love squared off against Knockout Titleholder Taylor Wilde in a Beautiful People Beauty Pageant. The event was decided under a three-round format with The Prince Justice Brotherhood serving as judges. Wilde won an Evening Gown Contest in Round One, while Love took the bikini showdown in the second stage. Taylor’s drumming skills during the talent competition earned her the pageant victory and a furious Love joined fellow Beautiful People associates Velvet Sky and Kip James in an attack on Wilde. The PJB attempted to assist the Champion, but were held off by James until Rhino made the save.
AJ Styles called Frank Trigg to the ring and the two exchanged barbs before agreeing to an MMA-style match at No Surrender. Styles slapped Trigg and the future Pay-Per-View opponents tussled until being separated by security. Personally, I feel this bout is being rushed to PPV far too quickly; three days is not nearly enough build given the time TNA has invested in the AJ-Trigg feud.
Sting used the final segment of the program to call out Samoa Joe and Jeff Jarrett. Joe appeared in the rafters and told The Icon that he would not be coming to No Surrender alone. With that, Jarrett’s music hit and the King of the Mountain appeared on the entrance stage as Impact concluded.
Match Results: Christian Cage over Abyss via disqualification following interference by Kurt Angle and Booker T … Awesome Kong over Roxxi via pinfall in a Bimbo Brawl … World Champion Samoa Joe over Johnny Devine (via pinfall), Lance Rock (via pinfall), and Tomko (via pinfall) in a non-title Gauntlet Match … Kurt Angle and Booker T over Matt Morgan and Abyss via Angle’s pinfall on Abyss following interference by Team 3D.
