TNA presented their No Surrender PPV event last night in Oshawa, Ontario featuring a Ladder Match, AJ Styles battling Frank Trigg in an MMA-style contest, and a Triple Threat World Title headliner. The show began with Sting coming to the ring and announcing that he will challenge the winner of the three-way main event (more on that later) at Bound For Glory. The Icon continued his campaign against the perceived disrespect of TNA’s younger wrestlers and referenced the Montreal screwjob by stating that he is fighting for the same cause as Bret Hart did in 1997 (Apparently Sting did not want to drop the WWE Title to Shawn Michaels on this PPV). The Stinger later traded blows with Samoa Joe before the World Championship bout until AJ Styles arrived to calm down The Samoan Submission Machine. Mike Tenay and Don West informed viewers early in the broadcast that weather conditions prevented Booker T from flying out of Texas, removing him from the Four Ways To Glory main event. This left Samoa Joe to defend the World Title against Christian Cage and Kurt Angle in a Triple Threat Match, which Joe won following a Jeff Jarrett guitar shot on Angle to retain his belt. Jay Lethal and Sonjay Dutt squared off in a Ladder of Love Match for the hand of SoCal Val. This was a great bout featuring many innovative ladder spots. The finish came when Val turned on Lethal by striking him with a low blow, allowing Dutt to climb the rungs and retrieve his new love’s engagement ring. Frank Trigg took on AJ Styles in an MMA-style showdown which the live audience completely rejected. The match itself was entertaining and well-worked, but fans responded with chants of “Fire Russo!” and “This is bullshit!” (With cameras hilariously panning the crowd as this occurred). The finish here did not help matters, as the referee called for a no-contest after Styles accidentally hit Trigg in the groin. In other news, Sheik Abdul Bashir won the X Division Title in a three-way match and a Matt Morgan/Abyss split was teased following the duo’s victory over Team 3D.
