Last night's Smackdown featured Triple H taking on MVP, a Carlito's Cabana segment, and the return of Gregory Helms (sort of).
WWE Champion Triple H headlined the broadcast against MVP in a non-title match. Following Hunter’s Pedigree victory, Vladimir Kozlov - who had blindsided Jeff Hardy with a big boot on the entrance ramp earlier in the show - arrived and laid out The Game in the ring. I sincerely hope this is not leading toward a three-way bout for the WWE Title at No Mercy, unless the plan is to save a Triple H-Jeff Hardy singles match for Survivor Series.
General Manager Vickie Guerrero and her new business associate The Big Show took great delight in re-watching the giant’s Unforgiven ambush on The Undertaker numerous times throughtout the course of the program. Chavo Guerrero entertained the pair by dressing in Dead Man attire and kissing Vickie’s feet, but later found himself in ‘Taker’s grasp as cameras cut to a commercial break.
Carlito’s Cabana returned to Smackdown, featuring the afro-haired grappler’s brother Primo Colon as a guest. The siblings were soon interrupted by WWE Tag Team Champions Curt Hawkins and Zack Ryder, who - after considerable prodding - agreed to place their belts on the line next week against the Colons.
In other news, R-Truth defeated U.S. Titleholder Shelton Benjamin in a non-title match and Gregory Helms appeared in various “pop-up” insets throughout the night to offer comments on Benjamin, Hawkins, and Ryder (This gimmick has the potential to be A LOT of fun!).
Match Results: Divas Champion Michelle McCool over Maryse via pinfall … Festus vs. Ryan Braddock was ruled a no-contest when Jesse and Festus wrapped up Braddock and carted him away (similar to Kenny Dykstra last week) … R-Truth over U.S. Champion Shelton Benjamin via pinfall in a non-title match … Jeff Hardy over The Brian Kendrick via pinfall … The Great Khali over Scotty Goldman via pinfall … WWE Champion Triple H over MVP via pinfall in a non-title match.
