The show opened with a shot of the World Heavyweight Title hanging above the ring. Chris Jericho arrived and addressed his World Championship Ladder Match against Shawn Michaels at No Mercy before being interrupted by Randy Orton. Jericho threatened Orton as the two traded barbs, but The Legend Killer announced that anyone who harmed him before his in-ring return would be suspended by General Manager Mike Adamle. A frustrated Jericho exited and CM Punk’s music hit, bringing out the Straightedge Superstar. Punk - still livid over Orton costing him the World Title at Unforgiven - struck the third-generation wrestler twice, prompting Adamle to appear and suspend Punk indefinitely. Shane McMahon arrived and overruled the GM’s decision, stating that Punk’s actions were a “receipt” to Orton. Shane then booked Punk to square off against Cody Rhodes, a bout the former Raw kingpin won using the Go To Sleep.

Shane also signed Chris Jericho and John Bradshaw Layfield to take on Batista and Shawn Michaels in the main event of the broadcast. However, the former Y2J convinced Mike Adamle to make the match a three-on-two Handicap bout with Lance Cade added to the heel side. The Jericho protégé earned his position by capitalizing on a distracted Michaels and scoring the victory for his team.

In other news, Kelly Kelly upset Women’s Champion Beth Phoenix following backfired interference by Santino Marella. Charlie Haas also appeared in a funny segment and attempted to impersonate “Mr. Perfect” Curt Hennig by feebly playing pool, shooting hoops, and poorly participating in other activities.
