Last night's Impact featured the live debut of Mick Foley, another strong promo from Jeff Jarrett, and more.
Jeff Jarrett came to the ring and addressed Kurt Angle’s recent comments to the British media. While Angle said he was considering his options upon the expiration of his TNA contract in one year, Jarrett claimed that Kurt was elated to work for the company in 2006 and be free from the “living Hell” of WWE. The King of the Mountain then showed clips from an interview Angle conducted upon his arrival in TNA two years ago where he verbally attacked Vince McMahon and threatened to assault the WWE Chairman the next time the two meet. Kurt was later incensed to learn of both the interview airing and that he would be fined for his remarks in the U.K. newspapers.
Mick Foley made his live debut in the Impact Zone and “thanked” Vince McMahon for making his decision to leave WWE an easy one. Kurt Angle interrupted The Hardcore Legend and directed comments toward Jeff Jarrett, including a rather tasteless remark about himself not being the only one to have lost a wife (It’s difficult to imagine how and why Jarrett would allow this on his company’s program). Foley admitted that after commentating matches involving performers such as Edge, Shawn Michaels, John Cena, and Triple H - all men Kurt has defeated - he realized Angle may be the greatest wrestler of all-time. Foley said he would need to see Kurt’s match against Jeff Jarrett at Bound For Glory up close to know for sure and announced himself as the Special Enforcer for the PPV bout.
In other news, Jim Cornette announced that the Monster’s Ball Match at Bound For Glory would be a four-team contest for the Tag belts and AJ Styles accidentally struck Christian Cage with a springboard maneuver during a six-man bout, costing their side a victory (and further progressing the dissension between the two).
This was a decent Impact, albeit light on the wrestling side. The Jarrett and Foley promos were definitely the show highlights, although there were far too many WWE references in my opinion. Incorporating the competition into TNA angles to such a large degree makes the company appear second-rate.
