The News - Wrestling  |   Written by Adam Wilcox   |   Tuesday, 07 October 2008
Last night's post-PPV Raw featured the fallout from No Mercy, including a rematch to determine the number-one contender for the Heavyweight Title.

World Champion Chris Jericho opened the show by coming to the ring and gloating over his successful title defense against Shawn Michaels the previous night at No Mercy. The former Y2J announced that he had been placed in charge of Raw for the evening as General Manager Mike Adamle attended a meeting with the McMahons. Batista interrupted Jericho and delivered a spinebuster to the red brand’s top dog. Jericho retaliated by forcing The Animal to defend his newly-earned number-one contender’s spot against John Bradshaw Layfield in a PPV rematch. The Champion went on to appoint himself Special Referee for the bout, with William Regal acting as guest timekeeper and Randy Orton providing color commentary. Jericho favored JBL thoughout the contest, but the returning Adamle assisted Batista in overcoming the odds by sending Mike Chioda to count his pinfall on JBL. Post-match, the GM revealed that fans would have the option of choosing between Randy Orton, Shawn Michaels, or Steve Austin as guest referee for Jericho’s title defense against Batista at Cyber Sunday.

Speaking of Cyber Sunday, Jerry Lawler announced that Santino Marella would defend the Intercontinental Championship at the PPV. Roddy Piper, Goldust, and The Honky Tonk Man were listed as Marella’s potential viewer-decided challengers.

Shawn Michaels battled Lance Cade in a No-disqualification Match twenty-four hours following his loss to Cade’s mentor Chris Jericho. HBK gained the win after repeatedly battering his former student with a steel chair and then continued the assault with a disturbed expression on his face.

In other news, The Great Khali invited Jackass star Johnny Knoxville to appear on Raw next week before making out with Lilian Garcia as part of a Kiss Cam segment.

Match Results: Intercontinental Champion Santino Marella and Women’s Champion Beth Phoenix over Jamie Noble and Mickie James via Marella’s pinfall on Noble … Ted DiBiase over Kofi Kingston via pinfall … Kane and Mark Henry over ECW Champion Matt Hardy and Rey Mysterio via Kane’s pinfall on Hardy … Shawn Michaels over Lance Cade via pinfall in a No-disqualification Match … Kelly Kelly over Jillian via pinfall … Batista over JBL via pinfall to retain his number-one contender status.
