Video: Chael Sonnen Says He Will Ask Anderson Silva To Be His Assistant Coach For TUF Brazil 3

Anderson Silva and Chael Sonnen on the same team for The Ultimate Fighter Brazil 3? If Sonnen has his way, it could happen. Sonnen whose in England to corner Luke Barnatt this Saturday, did a media scrum in England today for UFC Fight Night 30 and a video was posted on severemma.com that he will at least ask Silva to be an assistant coach.

It was announced Tuesday night that Sonnen and Wanderlei Silva will be coaches on The Ultimate Fighter Brazil 3. Filming for the show will begin 2014.

Sonnen and the former middleweight champion have had a long standing rivalry as Sonnen talked a lot of trash leading into their first fight at UFC 117 in August of 2010, with Sonnen dominating the fight and Silva won by submission with 1:50 left in the fight. A lot of hype surrounded the rematch with Sonnen making of Anderson Silva, Wanderlei Silva and fellow Brazilian fighters and their home country. They fought at UFC 147 last July with Silva winning by TKO in the second round.

The odds of the former middleweight kingpin pairing with Sonnen is slim, but feels that Silva would bring a lot to the table of being a coach.

“Anderson Silva was one of my first thoughts to ask,” Sonnen stated. “And again, that wouldn’t be for me or Anderson. That would be for the young men who are kicking and clawing and trying to get into the UFC. I think his knowledge of the sport is tremendous, but also his ability to communicate in a Portuguese atmosphere would be very helpful.

“I think he’s got a relationship with Wanderlei, so it’s probably not likely. But that doesn’t mean I won’t reach out.”

Do you think Anderson Silva will accept Sonnen’s invitation if asked?

Watch the video above as Sonnen also discusses a variety of topics in the sport.

Dana White Announces Chael Sonnen And Wanderlei Silva To Coach The Ultimate Fighter Brazil 3

We have been waiting to see Chael Sonnen vs Wanderlei Silva finally settle their feud in the octagon. We are one step closer to that happening as UFC President Dana White announced on Fox Sports Live in front of Sonnen telling him that him and Silva will be the coaches on the upcoming The Ultimate Fighter Brazil 3.

“I told everybody we wouldn’t release it until sometime late November. I guess we’ll do it here. The coaches of The Ultimate Fighter Brazil are Wanderlei Silva and Chael Sonnen,” White announced.

“That one’s going to piss off a lot of people. It’s happening. Then those two will fight. You two will coach The Ultimate Fighter, you will have a ton of security down there with you, and it should be a fun season.”

“You two will coach The Ultimate Fighter. You will have a ton of security down there with you, and it should be a fun season,” White said to Sonnen.

The feud between Silva and Sonnen has gone on for well more than a year now as Sonnen has made disparaging remarks about Brazilian fighters including Silva. “The Axe Murderer” came back by making crude remarks on social media and in various You Tube videos.

The feud reached a boiling point when Sonnen was at the Mr.Olympia convention in Las Vegas a few weeks doing an autograph signing when Silva approached Silva wanting a fight and they both had to be separated.

The filming of season will be starting in the next couple of months. White didn’t announce when the season will air on television and when Silva and Sonnen would fight, which presumable will happen sometime in 2014.

Chael Sonnen Invites Wanderlei Silva To “UFC Tonight”

The feud between former Pride champion Wanderlei Silva and former UFC middleweight and light heavyweight title challenger Chael Sonnen has reached new levels of hate.

On Saturday at the Olympia Expo in Las Vegas, Silva came to the expo with a camera to confront Sonnen who was signing autographs for a sponsor. The video shows the two getting in an altercation with threats and swearing at each other.

Sonnen had a retort for Silva last night on the show he is a co-host of, “UFC Tonight”.

“I’m all for Wanderlei having a little fun,” Sonnen said on air.

“But Wanderlei, three things. First off, if you’re going to do a publicity stunt, do not bring your own camera. It looks staged, which it was. It insults your audience. Assume that they’re going to connect the dots. Show up somewhere where a camera is, and then go into your little routine.

“Secondly,” Sonnen continued. “In this country and in this industry, if you refuse to fight a guy, like you did me, you forfeit your right to then talk about that person in this type of fashion. Accosting somebody in public, can be regrettable. Accosting a gangster can be hazardous.”

“The Gangster From West Lynn” extended an unusual invitation to “The Axe Murderer”.

“Third and finally, Wanderlei, if you would like to come on this very set and conduct a conventional and traditional style interview, we here at ‘UFC Tonight’ will pay your way.”

Will Silva accept the invitation from Sonnen? Only time will tell.

UFC Fight Night 26 Results: Chael Sonnen Submits Shogun Rua

Chael Sonnen Approved To Fight At UFC Fight Night 26

All the hoopla over whether Chael Sonnen would get his license for UFC Fight Night 26 was all for nothing.

The former UFC light heavyweight and middleweight title challenger was unanimously approved for a license by the Massachusetts State Athletic Commission to fight Maurcio “Shogun” Rua next Saturday in the main event at UFC Fight Night 26 in an email sent to BetweenTheRopes.com.

The hearing took place today due to the union group, Unite Here, who had filed the complaint with the MSAC due to the federal laundering conviction Sonnen received in 2011. Another complaint was filed by the National Organization for Women over Sonnen’s alleged sexist, homophobic and derogatory language following his conviction that year as well.

Both groups were rebuffed as the MSAC ultimately approved the Oregon native for a license.

Here is what MSAC representative Terrel Harris sent to BetweenTheRopes.com:

The State Athletic Commission voted unanimously to license Chael Sonnen in Massachusetts for the Ultimate Fight Championship contest scheduled for August 17, 2013 in Boston. The decision followed the recommendation of their Medical Advisory Board which considered Sonnen’s physical condition and medical information. The Commission also considered complaints regarding his reputation and character but concluded no information the Commission received should preclude Sonnen’s licensure.

UFC President Dana White stated his feelings on the matter when it was announced Sonnen was getting a license.

UFC Fight Night 26 takes next Saturday night from the TD Garden in Boston on the debut night of Fox Sports 1.

Chris Weidman vs Anderson Silva Fight Estimated To Do 550,000 Pay-Per-View Buys

For the prediction that UFC President Dana White made about UFC 162 trending to about 800,000 buys was a little bit off.

According to Dave Meltzer from MMAFighting.com, UFC 162 featuring Chris Weidman knocking off Anderson Silva to win the UFC middleweight championship did about 550,000 buys on pay-per view.

The promotion based around the fight was that fighters were picking Weidman to knock off Silva and it seems like it was a success for the organization.

The number of buys for UFC 162 would be right around the projection of UFC 159 when Jon Jones defeated Chael Sonnen to make the second highest number of buys in 2013. The highest number of buys would be 950,000 buys for UFC 158 when Georges St-Pierre defeated Nick Diaz.
