Gina Carano “Kinda Considering” Fighting In The UFC, Meeting With Dana White Next Week

Gina Carano hasn’t fought inside the cage since her August 2009 loss to Cris Cyborg under the Strikeforce banner. Carano has gone on to shooting including movies including “In The Blood”, which comes out today in theatres. Rumors have been circulating that Carano and her team have been talking to the UFC about a possible return, which would be a fight against women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey.

Carano was on “The Arsenio Hall” Show last night to promote the movie and was asked by Hall if she misses fighting.

“There’s not a workout that I go through that I’m not fighting somebody in my mind,” she said, “and it’s never gone away.”

Hall then asked “Conviction” if she would fight again.

“Yea, I’m actually kinda considering it.”

Carano then confirmed that she will be meeting with UFC President Dana White next week. “I love it (fighting), it’s something I can do that makes everything else disappear. I dream about it. I just didn’t know if I was ever going to get placed with the opportunity to make a comeback. So I’m either going to do it now or retire and say, I’m never going to do it. So now is the moment.”

Anderson Silva Says “This Year Is Over For Me”, Promises Return In 2015

asilva

The last time we seen Anderson Silva in the octagon was when he threw a leg kick, which was checked by Chris Weidman and snapped Silva’s leg like a pretzel at UFC 168 in December. Silva has begun walking on his own and even started to do some light training. UFC President Dana White has been stating that Silva would return by the end of this year. The former middleweight kingpin put the kibosh on that.

In an interview with Combate.com in Brazil, Silva stated that he will not be returning this year, but promised he will return in 2015.

“These rumors that I’ll fight at UFC 181 or any other event around that date aren’t true,” Silva told Combate. “This year is over for me. There’s a chance I’ll fight in the first half of 2015.”

“The Spider”, who signed a ten fight contract last year says he isn’t sure if he will complete the contract.

“I don’t see myself stopping (right now), but I don’t know if I will fulfill my 10-fight contract,” he said. “My family has been asking me for years to stop fighting, and they need to understand that this is what I love to do and that I need to have my time. My goal in the sport was to become a reference in this sport, and I’m achieving this.”

Dana White States That The UFC Is “Not Interested” In Female Standout Holly Holm

holm

For all the MMA fans that were looking forward to seeing UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey fight former boxing standout Holly Holm this year, don’t hold your breath.

UFC President Dana White stated last night on “UFC Tonight”, that talks were “not good at all” with Holm’s camp this past weekend in Dallas, Texas, where UFC 171 took place.

White also stated that they are “not interested whatsoever” in the former female boxer who went 33-2-3 in boxing. She’s 6-0 in MMA, fighting in promotions like Bellator and Legacy Fighting Championships. Holm’s next fight will be for Legacy on April 4 where she fights Juliana Werner in the main event for the inaugural Legacy women’s bantamweight championship.

Chael Sonnen vs Wanderlei Silva Fight “Not Done Yet”

sonnen

It had been long assumed that Chael Sonnen and Wanderlei Silva would square off at a UFC Fight Night event on May 31 in Brazil. Sonnen has been stating that the fight hasn’t been signed and the confirmation of that fact came today.

During a media scrum today to promote Saturday’s UFC 171, Dana White told the media that the fight isn’t official.

“No, it’s not done yet. I gotta get that done this week too,” White stated. The UFC President feels though that everything will get worked out and the fight will happen.

“We’ll get it done,” White said.

People have speculated that the reason why the fight hasn’t been signed is due to the TRT ban, which Sonnen has been receiving an exemption for the last couple years. White though doesn’t feel the recent ban will be an issue in regards to Sonnen.

“One of the things about Chael Sonnen, he’s a very good communicator. So if Chael thought something was in jeopardy or something wasn’t gonna happen, he would let us know.”

Gilbert Melendez Agrees To A Deal With Bellator; UFC Can Match The Offer

melendez

UFC President Dana White stated earlier in the week on “UFC Tonight” that he was done with the negotiations involving Gilbert Melendez. White said that if Melendez wants a deal done to stay in the UFC, call UFC CEO Lorenzo Fetitta and if the situation didn’t improve, Melendez better start looking for a new fight promotion.

Melendez took that advice as he agreed to a multi-fight and multi-year deal with Bellator. The UFC does have the right to match the offer, but how long they have is unknown at this time. The former Strikeforce lightweight champion is 1-1 in the UFC with a loss to former lightweight champion Benson Henderson in the main event of UFC on Fox 7 last April by a controversial split decision and defeated Diego Sanchez by unanimous decision in a fight of the year candidate at UFC 166 in October.

“The moment Gil was legally able to explore the free agent market, Gil’s management team reached out to me and we began figuring out how to bring Gil to Bellator,” Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney said in a press release.

“It’s no secret that I’ve been a big ‘El Nino’ fan for many years. Gil was one of the first fighters I tried to sign when I launched Bellator back in 2008, and he’s grown and developed into one of the best and most exciting lightweights on earth. Gil has a vision for what he wants to accomplish both inside and outside the cage and we can help make his vision a reality. We are in the business of developing and showcasing the greatest fighters on earth. That’s what we intend to do here with Gil and it’s what we’ll continue to do in the future.”

Melendez made a statement on Twitter saying what went down.

Daniel Cormier Back On UFC 170, Will Face Newcomer Patrick Cummins

DanielCormiermedia

Last night Rashad Evans had to bow out of his UFC 170 fight next weekend against Daniel Cormier. The UFC also announced that Cormier would be taken off the card. Cormier stated on Twitter that he still wanted to fight next weekend, even if it had to be at heavyweight. You ask and you shall receive.

UFC President Dana White announced today that Cormier will stay on the card and face his former wrestling training partner, UFC newcomer Patrick Cummins.

Cummins is a two-time All-American and national champion runner-up from Penn State University and is undefeated in four career fights. As soon as Evans pulled out of the fight Cummins was asking for the fight on Twitter. Dana White told MMAFighting.com that Cummins told him that he made Cormier cry when they would train together. Cormier told MMAFighting that wasn’t the case at all.

“There’s a lot of pressure that comes with trying to win a gold medal, something that Pat wouldn’t understand since he was only a training partner to me and Kerry McCoy. He wasn’t the guy. I appreciate him stepping up and taking the fight, but we’re going to see who’s going to be crying after we fight next Saturday night.”

The fight will remain the co-main event of the show.

Rashad Evans Suffers A Leg Injury, Out Of UFC 170 Against Daniel Cormier

evans

A lot of anticipation was building towards the co-main event of Rashad Evans and Daniel Cormier at UFC 170 next weekend. Evans was riding a two-fight winning streak and Cormier is undefeated in 13 fights and was making his long anticipated debut at light heavyweight.

Yahoo Sports is reporting and has been confirmed by the UFC that Evans has suffered an injury and had to bow out of the fight. Cormier was also taken off the card due to not being able to find a replacement in that short amount of time.

The news seemed to take people off guard as Evans was apart of today’s UFC 170 conference call and did an interview on “UFC Tonight” to promote the fight.

UFC President Dana White told MMAFighting.com that Evans has suffered a knee injury and would be on the shelf for about four weeks.

Dana White Says That Georges St-Pierre Never Complained About Headaches To Him

Photo from Sports.Yahoo.com

Photo from Sports.Yahoo.com

Who is telling the truth in the saga between UFC President Dana White and former welterweight kingpin Georges St-Pierre? The former champions trainer Freddie Roach stated on Tuesday that GSP had been suffering from migraine headaches. Roach also advised St-Pierre to take a at least a year off and said a superfight between the Canadian and Anderson Silva could have happened if Silva and St-Pierre had won their respective fights.

White was on Fox Sports Live and responded to the statements of Roach.

“The crazy stuff I keep hearing back from Georges St-Pierre is unbelievable. No, Georges St-Pierre never complained to us about headaches. Georges St-Pierre has never publicly said the real reasons why he stepped away from the UFC for a year. When he sat down with Lorenzo [Fertitta] and I it was a whole different set of issues, personal problems. It had nothing to do with headaches or drug testing or anything else that’s been said.

“Not only did he tell us it was personal issues, he told us what the personal issues were. I have no idea [why he keeps complaining]. I don’t know if he’s just trying to draw a smokescreen to what he’s really dealing with and doesn’t want to publicly talk about [it]? I don’t know.”

An opponent has been found to fight Andrade as fellow TUF 18 alum Raquel Pennington stepped up and took the fight.

Dana White On The WWE Network Airing PPV’s: “It’s Ridiculous”

WWE Network Blue

The UFC debut their online digital network called “Fight Pass” at the beginning of this month. Then about three weeks ago, the WWE announced that they will be debuting the WWE Network digital network starting on Monday, February 24th. Each network will cost $9.99, but with the WWE Network you have to buy it six months at a time instead of paying for it monthly.

Fans of both products have made the correlation between the UFC and WWE product. You can make that case for sure considering UFC fans are WWE fans and vice versa.

UFC president Dana White has been repeatedly asked about the WWE Network at various UFC shows and has been complimentary in wishing the WWE luck with their network.

During a media luncheon yesterday to promote UFC 169 that takes place on Saturday night, White was asked about whether Fight Pass will ever air live pay-per-views like the WWE will be doing.

“It’s ridiculous. I hate to sound like I’m attacking the WWE or de-value what they did because Vince McMahon, say whatever you want and he’s always smashing us and talking s—t about us, but I will tell you this – I was watching WWE I was a little kid and Vince was the commentator in WWE. This guy has been kicking ass, breaking rules and doing things that people said he couldn’t do over and over and over again. Now I’m older I don’t get the whole thing, it doesn’t work for me, but what he’s able to do, the ratings he’s able to pull and the things he’s done and when I look at his model and he’s basically taking everything in and de-valued it. Saying everything we do is worth $10. That doesn’t make sense to me,” White said during a media luncheon on Monday.

“If he pulls in 2 million subscribers, he’s crushing it. So it’s a risky move, it’s a crazy move, but Vince has been doing risky, crazy s—t since the beginning of time. If anybody can do it, maybe Vince can do it.”

Report: Brock Lesnar “Talking” With Dana White About A Return To The UFC

Brock Lesnar appeared last night on WWE Monday Night, where he put out Mark Henry with a kimura. Moments later got into skirmish with The Big Show.

Various MMA websites showed the video of Lesnar putting Henry in the kimura since it is a MMA move. Rumors had run rampant two weeks ago leading up to UFC 168 that Lesnar was discussing a return to the organization. UFC President Dana White was coy about a Lesnar return at that time.

BetweenTheRopes.com had talked to FightHype.com lead writer Percy Crawford at that time if they thought Lesnar would return. It seemed like it was all for nothing though when Lesnar returned last week on Raw and pummeled Henry. It looks like though we could be wrong.

Lance Pugmire from the LA Times stated yesterday on Twitter that he talked to UFC President Dana White and White told him that he is talking with Brock Lesnar regarding a return to the UFC.

BetweenTheRopes.com has talked to sources close to the situation and that a Lesnar return has been discussed with White. The sources also told us that fights have been discussed, but as of right now nothing is imminent.

Brian and Steve discuss today on the Raw Recap who they think Lesnar could face if he returns, would WWE allow him to return and more.
