Benson Henderson vs Rustam Khabilov To Headline First UFC Event in Albuquerque

The UFC has never headed to the state of New Mexico, until now. It was first reported by the Albuquerque Journal and later confirmed by the UFC that former lightweight champion Benson Henderson will battle Rustam Khabilov.

The fight will be the main event of a UFC Fight Night event and will take place on Saturday, June 7 from the Tingley Coliseum in Albuquerque, New Mexico. It was announced that tickets go on sale to the public, Friday April 18. It also isn’t known at this time where the broadcast will end up on.

We last saw Henderson in the cage in January at UFC on Fox 10 when he defeated Josh Thomson by split decision. Khabilov last competed in November at UFC Fight For The Troops 3 defeating Jorge Masvidal by unanimous decision.

No other fights have been announced for the card at this time.

UFC on Fox 10 took place last night from the United Center in Chicago, IL. The main event featured Benson Henderson defeating Josh Thomson by a controversial split decision. The co-feature had Stipe Miocic defeating Gabriel Gonzaga by unanimous decision.

UFC On Fox 10 Bonuses: Alex Caceres Nets Two Fight Night Bonuses

UFC on Fox 10 just commenced from the United Center in Chicago, IL. In the main event, Benson Henderson defeated Josh Thomson by split decision and in the co-main event Stipe Miocic defeated Gabriel Gonzaga by unanimous decision.

At the post-fight press conference, it was announced that fight night bonuses went to Donald Cerrone for “Knockout of the Night” with his victory over Adriano Martins. Alex Caceres won “Fight and Submission of the Night” for his win and fight over Sergio Pettis. The Wisconsin native, Pettis also received the award for “Fight of the Night” as well.

Caceres netted $100,000 total for his two bonuses, with Cerrone and Pettis scored $50,000.

UFC On Fox 10 Results: Benson Henderson Defeats Josh Thomson By Controversial Split Decision

Benson Henderson had a lot to prove heading into the main event of tonight’s UFC on Fox 10 against Josh Thomson. Henderson lost the UFC lightweight title to Anthony Pettis at UFC 164 in August and desperately needed a win.

Round 1

The fight starts with Henderson peppering the jab. Henderson lands a head kick. Henderson comes for a hook and Thomson is able to get his back and takedown Henderson. Thomson takes Henderson’s back trying for a rear naked choke, but Henderson is blocking it. Henderson gets up, but Thomson still has his back. Henderson is able to muscle out and get Thomson in the clinch. Thomson reverses and Henderson reverses back and lands a takedown. Thomson gets right up. Henderson has a standing head and arm choke and takes down Thomson who gets up. Thomson slams Henderson to end the round.

Round 2

The round starts landing a couple jabs and then presses Thomson into the cage and in the clinch. Thomson lands a couple knees and almost reverses the clinch. Referee John McCarthy separates them. Thomson presses Henderson into the cage and lands a takedown and has his back. Henderson gets back up. Each guy is circling each other and Henderson presses Thomson into the cage lands a combination and then a moment later a punch/body kick combination.

Round 3

Henderson lands a superman punch and that knocks Thomson down. Thomson gets back up, but Henderson takes him down and then Thomson gets up. Henderson lands a body shot to clinch Thomson as Thomson reverses and back in the middle of the cage. Henderson tries a body kick and Thomson attempts a takedown, but Henderson reverses. A body kick is blocked by Thomson, who takes down Henderson who pops back up as the round comes to a close.

Round 4

The round starts with a body kick and left hand by Henderson. Thomson lands a takedown and working inside the guard. Henderson attempting a triangle choke, but Thomson gets out. Thomson has Henderson in a guilliotine, but Henderson gets up and scores a takedown. Thomson gets to his feet, but Henderson has his back. Thomson reverses and they are back in the middle. Both guys swing and miss. Henderson misses a right hook, Thomson scores a takedown and has Henderson’s back. Henderson gets back up with Thomson on his back.

Round 5

The final round starts with both guys circling each other as Henderson lands a body shot and Thomson misses a right cross. Henderson lands a leg kick. Thomson lands a right hook. Thomson lands a straight right and trips Henderson. Henderson lands an outside leg kick and then a body shot. Thomson blocks a body kick and pushes Henderson into the cage and has his back. Henderson reverses into the clinch. Both guys reverse the clinch and back in the middle.

The judges score it (47-48, 48-47, 49-46) and the winner by split decision to Benson Henderson as he defeats Josh Thomson.

It is fight week as the UFC has the first Fox show of 2014 on Saturday night. UFC on Fox 10 takes place on Saturday night from the United Center in Chicago, Illinois. The main event of the show features former UFC lightweight champion Benson Henderson battling former Strikeforce lightweight champion Josh Thomson.

Before every Fox show, the UFC airs a show called “Road to the Octagon” that highlights the featured matches on the show. The episode features the Henderson vs Thomson fight, heavyweights Gabriel Gonzaga and Stipe Miocic and lightweights Donald Cerrone and Adriano Martins.

Main Card For UFC On Fox 10 Revealed

The UFC officially announced that UFC on Fox 10 will take place on Saturday, January 25 from the United Center in Chicago, Illinois. The main event will feature former UFC lightweight champion Benson Henderson facing off with former Strikeforce lightweight champion Josh Thomson. In the co-main event Stipe Miocic will battle Gabriel Gonzaga in heavyweight action.

We haven’t seen Henderson in the octagon since he lost his title to Anthony Pettis at UFC 164 in August. Thomson was originally supposed to face Pettis in the main event of next week’s UFC on Fox 9, but Pettis had to bow out due to a knee injury. “The Punk” hasn’t competed since UFC on Fox 7 in his return to the UFC as he stopped Nate Diaz.

The rest of the main card will feature Donald Cerrone battling Adriano Martins in lightweight and in featherweight action Darren Elkins faces Jeremy Stephens.

Tickets for UFC on FOX 10 go on sale Friday, Dec. 6 at 10 a.m. CT, while UFC Fight Club members will have the opportunity to purchase tickets to this event Wednesday, Dec. 4 at 10 a.m. CT via the website www.ufcfightclub.com. Anthony Pettis To Undergo Knee Surgery in December

We had reported last week that UFC lightweight champion Anthony Pettis was still battling a bum knee and wouldn’t be able to headline UFC on Fox 9 against Josh Thomson. After seeing a few doctors, “UFC Tonight” reported that Pettis will have knee surgery to repair a torn PCL in his left knee.

The lightweight champion suffered the injury in his title win over Benson Henderson at UFC 164 in August. Pettis at first tried to rehab it, then after he went back to training for the Thomson fight, he hurt it again. “Showtime” will have surgery on December 12th out in Los Angeles. A timetable for how long Pettis will be out is unknown, but the normal time to come back from a PCL surgery is six to nine months.

Pettis told the show that he plans to be back by the summertime of 2014. When do you think Pettis will return to the company?

Gray Maynard vs Nate Diaz Bumped Up To Headline TUF 18 Finale

The UFC has announced that Nate Diaz and Gray Maynard is the new main event for The Ultimate Fighter 18 Finale on November 30 replacing the Demetrious Johnson-Joseph Benavidez flyweight title fight.

The reason Johnson-Benavidez, which was originally scheduled for the TUF 18 was moved to the Fox show was due to UFC lightweight champion Anthony Pettis had to bow out of his title fight with Josh Thomson due to a knee injury.

This will be the third time that Diaz and Maynard have squared off, but the second time officially as they fought each other when they were on the fifth season of TUF, with Diaz winning by submission. The two battled at UFC Fight Night 20 in January of 2010 with Maynard winning by split decision.

Diaz comes into the fight on a two fight losing streak, defeated by Benson Henderson and Josh Thomson. Maynard is 2-2-1 in his last five fights losing most recently to T.J. Grant by knockout at UFC 160 in May.

Usually main event fights are five rounds, but due to this fight being in 19 days, it will be a three round affair. The Ultimate Fighter 18 Finale takes place on Saturday, November 30 from the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas.

Demetrious Johnson vs Joseph Benavidez II Will Now Headline UFC On Fox 9

After it was announced that the Pettis-Thomson was off due to Pettis’ knee injury, Johnson and Benavidez has been promoted to the main event of UFC on Fox 9.

The Johnson-Benavidez rematch was originally supposed to take place on The Ultimate Fighter 18 Finale on Saturday, November 30 from the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas. The two flyweights first squared off last September at UFC 152 for the inaugural flyweight title, with Johnson winning by split decision.

Since that time, Benavidez has won three in a row defeating Ian McCall, Darren Uyenoyama and most recently Jussier da Silva. Johnson is 4-0-1 in last five fights will be looking to make his third title defense this year, all on Fox broadcasts. The champion has defeated John Dodson and John Moraga so far this year.

UFC on Fox 9 takes place on Saturday, December 14 from the Sleep Train Arena in Sacramento, California.

Anthony Pettis Suffers Knee Injury, Out Of UFC On Fox 9 Main Event

Anthony Pettis will have to wait on making his first title defense as UFC lightweight champion. It was announced on “Fox Sports Live” on Fox Sports 1 that Pettis has suffered a knee injury and is out of his UFC on Fox 9 main event fight with Josh Thomson.

Pettis won the lightweight title against Benson Henderson at UFC 164 in August. The Wisconsin native was originally was supposed to face T.J. Grant at the event, but Grant is still suffering the effects of a concussion suffered in June. That was when the UFC replaced Grant with Thomson, who had an impressive return to the UFC when he defeated Nate Diaz at UFC on Fox 7 in April.

UFC on FOX 9 will take place on Saturday December 14 from the Sleep Train Arena in Sacramento, California.

Anthony Pettis vs Josh Thomson Headlines UFC On Fox 9

Anthony Pettis became the UFC lightweight champion a little over two weeks ago at UFC 164 when he defeated Benson Henderson. Pettis has a date and an opponent for his first title defense.

Pettis will be squaring off with former Strikeforce lightweight champion Josh Thomson in the main event of UFC on Fox 9 on Saturday, December 14.

Thomson last fought in April at UFC on Fox 7 when he became the first to ever stop Nick Diaz when stopped Diaz in the second round. The Calfornia native got the shot at Pettis when T.J. Grant announced on Twitter last night that he was still experiencing the effects of a concussion he suffered in June.
