Floyd Mayweather vs Canelo Alvarez Sets All Time PPV Revenue Record, Estimated 2.2 Million Buys

A lot of hype was surrounding the Floyd Mayweather vs Canelo Alvarez fight this past Saturday in terms of breaking the records for most pay-per-view buys, the most money made ever on PPV, biggest gate ever. We knew the last one was the record and now we have confirmation that at least one of those other records was broken.

Showtime announced that the Mayweather and Alvarez set the all time PPV revenue record exceeding $150 million with an early projection of 2.2 million buys. The previous record was $136 million from when Mayweather fought Oscar De La Hoya in 2007.

The Mayweather and De La Hoya fight was initially announced at 2.15 million buys and then amended a couple of months later when more of the numbers were tallied up to 2.48 million buys.

Showtime replays the fight with the junior welterweight championship fight co-feature between Danny Garcia and Lucas Matthysse, on Saturday night (9 ET/PT).

Floyd Mayweather vs Canelo Alvarez Live Stream Weigh-Ins Starting At 5 P.M. ET

Floyd Mayweather will square off tomorrow night against Canelo Alvarez for Mayweather’s WBA Super Welterweight Super World Championship and for Alvarez’s WBC, WBA and Ring Magazine Super Welterweight Championships at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

It is the biggest fight in boxing since a 2007 showdown with Mayweather and Oscar De La Hoya, whohc broke the all-time pay-per-view record with over 2.4 million buys. Boxing experts have been saying that this fight has a chance to eclipse that mark.

In the co-feature, Unified Super Lightweight Champion Danny “Swift” Garcia will defend his WBC, WBA and Ring Magazine Super Lightweight Championships as he battles Lucas “The Machine” Matthysse.

Before the fights take place, the fighters will weigh-in today starting at 5 p.m. ET.
