WWE RAW Reaction and Review – November 4th, 2013

big show triple h facedown

Raw opened with, surprisingly enough, an actual wrestling match – CM Punk defeated Luke Harper in a good enough segment. I’m still not sold on Luke Harper as a future singles star (size doesn’t necessarily equal success), but I think he stepped up his game quite a bit here. Then again, CM Punk can make pretty much anybody look like a star… that is, anybody except for Ryback. It’s nice to see The Wyatt Family matter again. It’s also nice to see WWE mix in some lower-to-mid card talent with the main event boys. [Read more...]

WWE RAW Reaction and Review – October 14th, 2013

goldust and cody rhodes champions

Anytime a show opening includes Shawn Michaels, you know you’re in for a treat. Still, this should’ve been so much more. Randy Orton deserves the most credit here for delivering the angriest face and most gravely voice he could muster – his intensity was fantastic. Unfortunately, Shawn Michaels no-sold him for most of the promo. On top of that, the logic here made little-to-no sense.

WWE RAW Reaction and Review – October 7th, 2013

Big Show KO Triple H

Hold on to your cowboy hats, folks – last night’s WWE RAW stoked up the hype train in a big way. The show opening, with Big Show getting “fired” by Stephanie McMahon, left me with mixed feelings. I liked the idea here (especially since it set the tone for Show’s re-emergence later in the evening). Unfortunately, Stephanie and Show both had their best Brendan Frasier acting hat on. There are ways to sell moments as believable without being over the top, but that subtlety was overlooked here. [Read more...]

Goldust AttackLast night’s show opening was solid. I think the “every superstar on stage” gimmick is starting to run its course, but at least the result was a little different (that being the 11-on-3 handicap match). I seriously question the locker room’s ambitions, since they made Rob Van Dam their spokesperson – furthermore, they’re all buying into Triple H’s spill a little too easily. On the other hand, I really enjoyed seeing Triple H and Stephanie McMahon ham it up a little. Selling Daniel Bryan as the selfish one, not the COO, is a great way to make Hunter the type of villian fans love to hate. [Read more...]

WWE News: Raw Rating Up After Night of Champions

WWE Raw always does better the night after Pay-Per-Views, and this year’s Night of Champions was no exception.

Against Week 2 of NFL Monday Night Football, WWE’s flagship show saw a slight gain over last week.  It averaged 4.103 million viewers for the night.  This is up from last week’s 3.885 million viewers, and also higher than the 3.94 million from two weeks ago. [Read more...]

raw christian daniel bryanShow opening last night was great wrestling television. Edge came out and gave the fans what they wanted. He put over Daniel Bryan, criticized Randy Orton, and gave Triple H even more heat. This is how you leverage a legend to create new stars. Plus, Edge was smart to bring up all the stars that Triple H has been wrong on in the past – I bet “smart marks” were eating that up. It’s also worth noting that Randy Orton and Triple H look fantastic side-by-side. They’re the kind of power-heel-duo that the WWE has been without for too long. [Read more...]

Make sure to check out the WWE Raw Rundown for everything that happened on last night’s show. Also, listen to Brian and Steve discuss their opinions on the latest Between the Ropes podcast!

daniel bryan yesRaw opened solid again last night. The deeper Triple H digs into his villainous power-trip authority figure, the better he gets. We can complain about egos and self-promotion all we want, but who else in the company could play this role to such perfection? Fans absolutely hate him, and not just because they’re supposed to. They hate him for being so misguided. They hate him because he’s believable. [Read more...]
