Jon Jones Not Very Impressed With Glover Teixeira’s Performance

Glover Teixeira defeated Ryan Bader last night by TKO at 2:55 of Round 1 at UFC Fight Night 28. After the card had ended, the UFC confirmed that Teixeira would face the winner of UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones and Alexander Gustafsson. That fight takes place in 16 days at UFC 165 in Toronto.

During the post-fight interview with Jon Anik, Teixeira wasn’t happy with his performance and knows their is room for improvement.

“To tell you the truth, I wasn’t happy with this fight,” Teixeira said immediately after the fight. “I was disappointed he was able to knock me down. But I’m telling you, this belt is going to be mine. It doesn’t matter if it’s Jon Jones or Gustafsson. It’s mine.”

It doesn’t seem like the light heavyweight kingpin wasn’t very impressed with Teixeira’s performance.

.

Jones and Texieira have two common opponents in Bader and Rampage Jackson. The champion defeated Bader by submission in the second round at UFC 126 in February of 2011 and Jackson by submission in the fourth round at UFC 135 in September of 2011.

Teixeira defeated Jackson by unanimous decision at UFC on Fox 6 in February and the first round stoppage of Bader last night.

Only time will tell if these two will square off.

UFC Fight Night 28 Results: Glover Teixeira Stops Ryan Bader In Main Event

Dana White said after UFC 163 that Glover Teixeira needed to look impressive against Ryan Bader to get a title shot at the winner of Jon Jones and Alexander Gustafsson at UFC 165. Teixeira made that statement to Jones and Gustafsson.

After going through some danger early in the fight, Glover Teixeira defeated Ryan Bader by TKO at 2:55 of the first round in the main event of UFC Fight Night 28 from the Mineirinho Arena in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, Brazi.

Bader started the fight with a jab and then tried for takedown that the Brazilian was able to stuff. The Arizona native hit a right hand that staggered Teixeira and Bader locked in a guillotine choke, but Teixeira was able to get out of it.

Teixeira was able to score a takedown, but Bader got up quickly. a few moments later Bader lands an uppercut and Teixeira attempts a high kick over the top, but misses Bader.

The Ultimate Fighter Season 8 winner lands another uppercut and Teixeira is wobbled. Teixeira though preserved and landed a right hook, left hook combination that drops Bader. Teixeira pounces on Bader until referee Herb Dean comes in and stops the fight.

Teixeira wasn’t happy with his performance, but says the title is his and doesn’t matter if he has to go through Jones or Gustafsson.

“To tell you the truth, I wasn’t happy with this fight,” he said. “I was disappointed he was able to knock me down. … But I’m telling you, this belt is going to be mine. It doesn’t matter if it’s Jon Jones or Gustafsson. It’s mine.”
