Alexander Gustafsson vs Antonio Rogerio Nogueira To Headline March 8 Event in London, Guillard/Pearson Rematch

We know UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones will be fighting Glover Teixeira early in 2014. We didn’t know though when Alexander Gustafsson would return to the cage.

UFC President Dana White announced after UFC Fight Night 30 yesterday that Gustafsson will return for an event on March 8 in London against Antonio Rogerio Nogueira. Thatf fight will be the main event of the show.

Gustafsson was last seen in the cage last month in an epic fight with Jones in where he lost a unanimous decision. A lot of people thought Gustafsson won the fight as well. The rematch seemed logically for their next fights, but the UFC has said if Jones gets by Teixeira and Gustafsson gets by Nogueira then they will rematch later in 2014. Rash

By the time the fight happens, Nogueira wouldn’t have fought in 13 months since he defeated. Rashad Evans at UFC 156 in February. The Brazilian has suffered a rash of injuries and will be looking for his third straight win.

It was also announced by White that Melvin Guillard and Ross Pearson will have their rematch. The two fought yesterday at UFC Fight Night 30 when it ended in a controverisial no contest when Guillard threw a questionable knee that was deemed illegal. Pearson had suffered a vicious cut on his forehead and the doctors deemed he was unable to continue.

This event will be the first event of the European tour in where the UFC will be having shows in big European cities throughout 2014.

Video: Chael Sonnen Says He Will Ask Anderson Silva To Be His Assistant Coach For TUF Brazil 3

Anderson Silva and Chael Sonnen on the same team for The Ultimate Fighter Brazil 3? If Sonnen has his way, it could happen. Sonnen whose in England to corner Luke Barnatt this Saturday, did a media scrum in England today for UFC Fight Night 30 and a video was posted on severemma.com that he will at least ask Silva to be an assistant coach.

It was announced Tuesday night that Sonnen and Wanderlei Silva will be coaches on The Ultimate Fighter Brazil 3. Filming for the show will begin 2014.

Sonnen and the former middleweight champion have had a long standing rivalry as Sonnen talked a lot of trash leading into their first fight at UFC 117 in August of 2010, with Sonnen dominating the fight and Silva won by submission with 1:50 left in the fight. A lot of hype surrounded the rematch with Sonnen making of Anderson Silva, Wanderlei Silva and fellow Brazilian fighters and their home country. They fought at UFC 147 last July with Silva winning by TKO in the second round.

The odds of the former middleweight kingpin pairing with Sonnen is slim, but feels that Silva would bring a lot to the table of being a coach.

“Anderson Silva was one of my first thoughts to ask,” Sonnen stated. “And again, that wouldn’t be for me or Anderson. That would be for the young men who are kicking and clawing and trying to get into the UFC. I think his knowledge of the sport is tremendous, but also his ability to communicate in a Portuguese atmosphere would be very helpful.

“I think he’s got a relationship with Wanderlei, so it’s probably not likely. But that doesn’t mean I won’t reach out.”

Do you think Anderson Silva will accept Sonnen’s invitation if asked?

Watch the video above as Sonnen also discusses a variety of topics in the sport.
