Ultimate Warrior Headlines Unique WWE Hall of Fame Ceremony

warriorhofMany people wondered what exactly The Ultimate Warrior would say on his long-awaited return to the WWE.  And he did not disappoint headlining the WWE Hall of Fame Class of 2014 at the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans, LA as one of seven new members.

After becoming one of the top stars in the WWE during the late 80’s and 90’s, Warrior — which is his real name after changing it from his given name Jim Hellwig years ago — and the company parted ways in 1996.  Since that time, both sides had been very outspoken about one another especially after the WWE released the DVD “The Self-Destruction of The Ultimate Warrior”, a scathing portrayal of the man behind the character.

Lineup for WWE Hall of Fame Class 2014

Coming up on Saturday night, the WWE will induct seven more members into its Hall of Fame. It’s an interesting lineup to say the least with plenty of characters and even controversial choices. The entire ceremony will air live on the WWE Network beginning at 9pm Eastern.

* The Ultimate Warrior

An iconic character from the 80′s known best by fans for his wild entrances running to the ring and his even wilder, nonsensical promos that he would scream out. Warrior’s big moment was defeated Hulk Hogan at WrestleMania VI which many people thought would be the passing of the guard but it was not and Hogan would return to take the top spot in the company. He had plenty of detractors from his peers for his style, especially since was not a very good wrestler and his erratic personality. That’s likely why Linda McMahon will be introducing him and not a fellow wrestler.

The Ultimate Warrior Going Into WWE Hall of Fame

the-ultimate-warriorThere have been plenty of ups and downs in the relationship between the WWE and The Ultimate Warrior.  Over the past few years, it had looked like the two sides were getting along better and to the point where Warrior may make it into the Hall of Fame.

That is now happening with WWE announcing on Raw that The Ultimate Warrior will be inducted into the 2014 class of the Hall of Fame.

Here is the official press release from the WWE:

STAMFORD, Conn., January 13, 2014 – WWE (NYSE:WWE) announced today that The Ultimate Warrior will return to WWE after an 18 year absence and be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame at a ceremony on Saturday, April 5, 2014 at New Orleans Arena, as a part of the WrestleMania® 30 festivities.

“The Ultimate Warrior was the most intense, colorful, competitive and outspoken Superstar in sports entertainment history, and his contributions to WWE were extraordinary,” said WWE Chairman & CEO Vince McMahon.  “We are thrilled to induct The Ultimate Warrior into the WWE Hall of Fame.”

The Ultimate Warrior was one of the most iconic and exciting Superstars in WWE history.  When the distinctive ring entrance music of Warrior hit, he would burst out of the dressing room and sprint towards the ring, causing a frenzy of excitement amongst WWE fans.  Inside the squared circle, Warrior was responsible for many of the most memorable moments in WWE history.

In 1988 at the inaugural SummerSlam®, he defeated the Honkytonk Man in record time to win his first of two Intercontinental Championships.  In 1990, Warrior defeated Hulk Hogan to become WWE Champion atWrestleMania® VI in one of the most exciting matches in WrestleMania history. Warrior would continue to captivate audiences around the world with epic encounters against WWE Legends such as Undertaker® and Randy Savage.  After a storied career that also saw him compete in WCW®, Warrior stepped away from the ring in 1998. Last year, he was featured in the WWE 2K14 video game as a downloadable character, giving the next generation of WWE fans a chance to “feel the power of the Ultimate Warrior.”

Additional WWE Hall of Fame Class of 2014 inductees will be announced over the coming weeks.

Report: Ultimate Warrior And WWE Reach An Agreement

ultimate warrior

You always hear the saying in pro wrestling, “never say never” in regards to a wrestler returning to an organization. When you think of the history of the Ultimate Warrior and the WWE, you would say you would never see him back in the company. Guess that saying still rings true.

The Wrestling Observer is reporting that the Ultimate Warrior and the WWE have reached an agreement. Terms haven’t been disclosed. The Observer states that this agreement is likely for the Warrior to be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame.

The Warrior hasn’t been seen in the WWE since July of 1996 and the last time we seen him on national television was his short lived WCW run from August-December of 1998.
