2013 Biggest News Story of the Year

Half of the business of professional wrestling is the wrestling itself – the other half is the drama that exists outside the ring.  Internet “dirt sheets” report the news, including any rumors and speculations that exists, and wrestling fans everywhere clamor for any bit of new information they can find.  2013 was full of surprises – including an openly gay wrestler in WWE, one of the founding members of TNA jumping ship, and a house show debacle that had many scratching their heads.  And unfortunately, a number of people in the biz lost their jobs, but one in particular was perhaps more shocking than all the rest combined. Between The Ropes Wrestling Podcast #5- May 9,2013

We talk to Major League Wrestling’s Owner/Creator and former WWE Creative Writer Court Bauer. In
part two of our intebauerrview with Bauer we discuss why the relationship with The Rock/WWE and why there will be regrets about The Rock’s last WWE run from 2011-Wrestlemania 29. We also discuss what is lacking TNA at this current time. We also get into if there are gays currently in pro wrestling due to the recent announcement of NBA player Jason Collins announcing he is gay and much more.

Here is a snippet of what Bauer had to say about the The Rock and WWE from 2011-Wrestlemania 29:

“I think everyone’s going to look back and have a lot of regrets about this partnership. I don’t think John Cena is anymore over for quote unquote being endorsed by The Rock at all. I don’t think the creative and the booking was at any point really great with The Rock. From day one in 2011 to the last few weeks going into WrestleMania, there was no sparkling great moment ever.

The Rock Discusses If Wrestlemania 29 Was His Last Match, Missing Raw, Brock Lesnar

We haven’t heard The Rock speak publicly since he lost the WWE Title match at Wrestlemania 29 against John Cena. Rock was supposed to be on the Monday Night Raw the following night due to injuries suffered in the main event.

The Rock spoke to Hot 97′s Peter Rosenberg about his reality show “The Hero”, which premieres in June. Naturally Rosenberg asked The Rock questions pertaining to Wrestlemania 29 and the aftermath that has ensued.

The Rock on Wrestlemania 29 being his last match: “Possibly,” Rock said. “The goal three years ago was, sat down with Vince McMahon and strategized about it and talked about three WrestleMania’s back to back, boom, boom, boom, and building to this. I committed myself to the company.

“I was very proud of that moment. It didn’t matter if I lost or did the job or not. It’s was an honor to do the honors. And in the wrestling world, there is no better way to give back to the business than to do the honors. I know there are a lot of fans who say it shouldn’t have been done or it should have been someone else, that’s not for me to say.”

Missing Raw the night after Wrestlemania: “I talked to Vince (McMahon) that night when I was hurt that night. Vince (McMahon) came to my locker room at WrestleMania. Vince and Triple H by the way, and John Cena came and C.M. Punk came. It’s easier and more salacious and more entertaining if “The Rock just left.” That’s now how I do business by the way.”

Rumors about potentially facing Brock Lesnar at Wrestlemania 30 next year: “The original plan was possibly Brock (Lesnar) and myself,” Rock said. “That was the next thing that made sense to me because I love Brock and we’ve been friends for over a decade now and we could have great, athletic match. So that was the plan, but then when I tore the two tendons off my pelvis, then I had to fly home that day. We couldn’t do what we wanted to do at Raw that day, so possibly, possibly with Brock down the road.”

HHH Gets Second Degree Burns At Wrestlemania 29

hhh burnsWrestling is very dangerous inside the ring, but who knew it was just as dangerous outside the square circle.

Former WWE champion and current WWE executive champion HHH faced Brock Lesnar this past Sunday in the co-main event of Wrestlemania 29. If you were watching the event, you noticed that HHH had a white substance on his body walking out to his match against Lesnar. We now know what that substance was.

The substance was dry ice and caused second degree burns to the superstar. HHH tweeted a pic earlier today which you can see to the right of the burns on his body.

Thankfully HHH is ok.

The Latest Injury Update on The Rock

the rockWe had an article yesterday on former WWE Champion Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson reporting that he had left the New York area where Monday Night Raw was atand headed to Los Angeles. It was also reported that Johnson suffered some type of abdominal injury and didn’t notify anyone in WWE that he had left the area, which caused backstage chaos and forced several re-writes to the show.

We do have an update on the injury to Johnson and wrestling again courtesy of The Wrestling Observer:

As noted earlier, The Rock legitimately suffered torn abdominal and abductor muscles and suffered a hernia during his match with John Cena at WrestleMania 29 last Sunday. Dave Meltzer noted on Wrestling Observer Live that the Rock did in fact notify the company about the injury. It may be a case of a lot of people not knowing what was going on while the show was re-written yesterday, which led to word getting out that he had bolted home without telling anyone.

The Rock immediately flew to Miami yesterday to get the injury checked out. Meltzer noted that the muscle was completely torn off the pelvis, and that it was a bad tear that may require surgery.

If he does need surgery, that would put off filming for his upcoming movie, Hercules, for the time being. The Rock was scheduled to leave shortly to Hungary and Croatia to film the movie, in which he is playing the title role. This is a big deal, as the movie is a major project co-produced by Paramount and MGM with Brett Ratner (The Rush Hour series, Tower Heist) slated to direct. It was scheduled to release during the key summer movie season of 2014. This more than explains the urgency of Rock wanting to get the injury checked out. Rock has been preparing for the role for a while, and has expressed his excitement for the project during several media interviews. There is also another Hercules movie in production, Hercules 3D, that was already planning to beat Ratner’s movie into theatres by five months.

This also will undoubtedly put pressure on The Rock to stop wrestling. The movie studios have big money riding on him with these projects, and there was always the fear of Rock getting injured during a match. Since he started getting lead roles in 2002, he had managed to stay injury free with his matches, which likely put execs at ease. The only injury he had sustained during that time was rupturing his Achilles tendon in 2006, however that was during the filming of The Game Plan and not during a match. Even so, the injury delayed that project.

Obviously WWE fans want to Johnson back in the squared circle. Do you think that happens?

Report: The Rock Not at Monday Night Raw and Planned Angles Scrapped

the rockDwayne “The Rock” Johnson says he came back to wrestling for the people. Well the man who calls himself. “The People’s Champion” has left the people.

According to a report in The Wrestling Observer, without telling anybody Johnson is not at WWE Monday Night Raw as scheduled.

The Observer states that the WWE was planning to shoot the main event angle for Wrestlemania 30 tonight with Johnson and Brock Lesnar. There is right now “absolute panic” backstage and rewriting the show as we speak.

PWInsider.com is reporting that Johnson was set open tonight’s Raw discussing his WWE Title loss to John Cena last night Wrestlemania 29. Lesnar and then Paul Heyman were going to confront Johnson and lay him out setting up the angle for Wrestlemania 30 on April 6,2014. PWInsider also confirms that Johnson flew to Los Angeles, catching the company by total surprise and generating heat backstage.

According to The Wrestling Observer, Johnson suffered an injury last night in the match with Cena. The severity of injury is not known at this current time.

That doesn’t seem to be a good reason to skip out on the show as all Johnson would have had to likely do is talk and at the worst take one or two bumps. We will be providing more updates as more comes to us.
