Hiroshi Tanahashi and Jushin Liger vs. reDRagon on night 1 of ROH vs. NJPW, plus more dream matches

The Ring of Honor vs. New Japan Pro Wrestling shows are shaping up to be real dream matches. ROH announced six matches (two more to come later tonight) for night No. 1 of War of the Worlds in Philadelphia. The big match so far is “Ace of the Universe” Hiroshi Tanahashi teaming with Jushin “Thunder” Liger against reDRagon (Kyle O’Reilly and Bobby Fish). But it could get even bigger.

If the Wrestling Observer‘s reporting is right, Mark and Jay Briscoe are slated to meet the Chaos dream team of Shinsuke Nakamura and Kazuchika Okada. UPDATE: It’s official!

And IWGP Heavyweight Champion A.J. Styles is rumored to be meeting Adam Cole, although ROH is calling the Phenomenal One’s opponent a mystery man.

Interpromotional matches are never easy to book, but that’s not something we as fans have to worry about. All we need to know is that this is shaping up to be an amazing card for Tuesday, May 12, at the 2300 Arena.

The other five matches announced so far are …

Michael Elgin against “Stardust Genius” Tetsuya Naito

Ring of Honor Tag Team Champions the Addiction (Christopher Daniels and Frankie Kazarian) vs. IWGP Tag Team Champions the Kingdom (Michael Bennett and Matt Taven) vs. the Young Bucks in what should be the show-stealing super-kick party.

Kevin Sullivan’s heart would flutter at this booker man matchup: Delirious vs. Gedo

Roderick Strong meets Time Splitter Kushida

And ROH TV Champion Jay Lethal meets Takaaki Watanabe.

Three more nights of this with War of the Worlds continuing in Philly Wednesday, May 1 — standing-room-only tickets are available for Night No. 1 and No. 2 — and then moving to Canada for Global Wars on Friday, May 15, and Saturday, May 16, at the Ted Reeve Arena in Toronto. It’s going to be awesome — and hopefully on iPPV.
