Breaking news out of Florida says that heading into the NXT Takeover: Unstoppable event on May 20th, the brand might be without one of its biggest international stars.
Mike Johnson at PWIInsider is reporting that Hideo Itami is suffering from a shoulder injury. His timetable to return could be anywhere from six to eight months.
This is bad news not only for Itami, but for the entire NXT brand. Fellow developmental star Sami Zayn made his debut on WWE’s flagship show this week but threw out his shoulder right before the match. The injury has been called “serious” by some, and might see the popular Canadian out for three months.
Of note, Alex Riley is also out for a knee injury, but was not scheduled to compete.
This leaves a lot of lingering question marks about who, exactly, might be starring on the NXT Takeover: Unstopabble special event. It definitely leaves the door open for others (say, Finn Balor?) to step up and make their mark; at the very least, it could lead to some restructuring of the card. It also means we won’t see Itami’s signature GTS again anytime soon.
