Kevin Owens made an instant impact when he debut for NXT, winning his first match and taking out new champion and former buddy Sami Zayn. Just a few months later, he became the quickest person to win the NXT Championship when he powerbombed Zayn over and over and over again.
Well, Owens hasn’t been slowing down since. Just a few weeks ago, he appeared on Raw and challenged John Cena, taking him out with a pop-up powerbomb. And he did it again on Raw this past week, just six days before the two square off at Elimination Chamber.
Now, it looks like Owens, despite being NXT Champion, is going to remain on the WWE main roster according to the Wrestling Observer.
Kevin Owens has signed a main roster contract with WWE it has been learned and will be making the transition from the NXT brand to the main brand quickly.
He is booked for all Raw television going forward and will be starting on a full house show scheduled very soon. He will continue as a character on NXT television for the couple of months to where it’s a smooth transition out since he’s the group’s current champion.
PWInsider.com had already noted that Owens was going to be taking the place of the injured Rusev on upcoming WWE shows including June’s Money in the Bank PPV and the Battleground PPV in July along with Brock Lesnar.
It’s quite the amazing rise for anyone, especially for Owens who some people think doesn’t have the right look to be a star in the WWE. Obviously, those in the company disagree.
Now we have to see what happens with the NXT Championship and if maybe a certain Samoan will be able to take it off his hands.
